Indian beauty salons are being forced to shut their doors following a bomb threat.
The bomb threat was sent to two Indian beauty parlours and the owner of one of them told local media that she was ‘stopping a bomb attack’ after an anonymous tip-off.
The owner of the Indian beauty studio in Pune, Maharashtra, told The Times of India that she had received a phone call on Monday morning telling her that her salon had been stopped from opening as a precautionary measure.
“I had received the call on my phone at 7:00 am.
I did not know whether it was a hoax or a genuine call.
I asked the caller for details about my salon and I was told that there had been a bomb-related incident in my city,” said Mimi Dhanani.
“I then received a call at 10:30 am from the owner who said she was stopping the opening of the salon because there was a bomb in the building and I needed to protect the staff.”
The owner said that she believed the threat was an attempt to extort money from her.
“It seems that the person who made the call made a phonecall to the salon to inform them about the bomb threat and to inform the owner.
She also informed me that they had stopped the opening because there were no employees in the premises,” she said.”
This is the first time I have ever received such a call,” Dhanan added.
“The caller asked me whether I had received any phone calls about the bombing.
I said I had not received any such calls, but said that I had been contacted by a number that I did know.”
We do not know how much money is being offered, but we have been receiving calls for two days now,” she added.
Dhanan said she received a message saying that she would be compensated in the amount of Rs 500 for closing her salon.
The owners of other Indian beauty centres also received the bomb threats, but did not report them to police.
Indian police officers have now been investigating the threats.”
The police are investigating the matter.
I am also asking the people of Maharashtra to help us find the person responsible for these threats,” said police commissioner M L Kumar.
