The Dubai branch of Lala’s Beauty Salon has come under fire for using the term “bitch”, which was popularised by the UK tabloid the Sun.
Lala’s said the term refers to a “slut” who is either too shy or too unattractive to be attractive.
The salon, which was founded in the 1990s, had to apologise after its slogan was posted on social media by a female customer on Monday.
Lalas chief executive, Nabeel Shah, said the word “bimbo” was popularized by a UK tabloid in the 1980s and 1990s.
She said: “Bimbo is not a derogatory term.
It’s not derogatory at all.
I think this is the first time that it has been brought to Dubai, which is a city where you can be anywhere you want.”
In Dubai, the word is very popular.
In my experience, it is very fashionable to be feminine.
“The term Bimbo was popular in the UK, and it is a term that was used in the 80s and 90s in the British tabloid press.”
A spokesperson for Lala said: The word Bimba means a girl who has too much fun, and she’s not sexy.
“This word is just not appropriate in our salon, as it refers to someone who is not attractive.”
